Genetics of Blood Clots - Stop The Clot® Educational Support Meeting

Inver Grove Heights, MN, March 2, 2010 – On May 12, 2010 the Minnesota Chapter of the National Blood Clot Alliance (formerly National Alliance for Thrombosis & Thrombophilia) will host its monthly education forum from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at the Amherst Wilder Foundation – 451 Lexington Avenue, St. Paul, MN.
The topic is Understanding, Diagnosing, and Treating Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH). The presenter is Muhammad Shurafa, MD, Hematologist, Van Elslander Cancer Center, Detroit, Michigan.

This meeting is open to patients, family members and healthcare providers. Attendees will learn:

Signs and symptoms of PNH, which may vary greatly from patient to patient
Why having PNH puts you at risk for developing a blood clot
Where blood clots can occur in the body of someone who has PNH
Reasons why this rare disease may be overlooked in someone with an unexplained or unprovoked blood clot
What diagnostic and laboratory tests are helpful in diagnosing PNH
What treatments are available for this rare disease
