New Anti-Blood Clot Guidelines Issued

The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP)  released “Antithrombotic Therapy and Prevention of Thrombosis, 9th ed: American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines” http://chestjournal.chestpubs.org/content/141/2_suppl/7S.full . The ACCP has published the most highly regarded guidelines for the treatment and prevention of blood clots. National Blood Clot Alliance(NBCA) President Randy Fenninger said “These guidelines should be endorsed and used by all physicians and surgeons so that patients can be assured a consistent standard of care for the treatment and prevention of blood clots regardless of where they live or where they are being treated.”   Jack Ansell, MD (Lenox Hill Hospital), chair of NBCA’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Board said “The ACCP Guidelines for Antithrombotic Therapy has become the bible for health care providers.  This edition, updated from 2008, contains many changes from the last edition and will be a great aid in the effort to provide the highest quality of evidence-based care.”   NBCA CEO, Alan Brownstein said “it is important that these guidelines be mainstreamed in the medical community so clinicians have the information that they need to know to minimize the risk of blood clots in their patients.”
