Stop the Clot® – What Every Healthcare Professional Should Know

Program Description:

This self-paced, online course for healthcare professionals provides the most current foundational information and clinical considerations to assess and treat patients with blood clots and clotting disorders, or those at risk of blood clots, to improve the ability of healthcare professionals to manage these patients.

Target Audience:

The target audience for this course includes: Physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals.

Course Content:

The online course is presented in six lessons, including:

  • Basics of Blood Clots
  • Thrombophilia & Blood Clots
  • Anticoagulation Medication
  • Post Thrombotic Syndrome
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Prevention of Blood Clots

Objectives:

At the conclusion of the session or online course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain three signs and symptoms of clots, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
  • Describe three factors that increase the risk of developing a blood clot in the form of a DVT and/or PE.
  • Describe three management considerations for the use of anticoagulant medications.
  • Explain three signs and symptoms of post-thrombotic syndrome that providers should include in patient education plans for blood clot survivors.
  • Explain two facts about pulmonary hypertension and its relationship to DVT.
  • Describe three appropriate treatment/management options to prevent clot recurrence and secondary complication.

Format:

Web-based, self-paced eLearning.

Prerequisites:

Knowledge of clinical care or population health and basic pathophysiology of the human body. Computer skills, including internet, MS Word, and the ability to retrieve and/or download PDF files.

Hardware/Software:

Computer hardware (PC or MAC); internet connection; browser; PDF viewing and/or retrieval software.
