NBCA Launches New Patient and Public Education “At-A-Glance” Series: “Blood Clots” is First Topic

The National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA) launched its new patient and public education “At-A-Glance” program with a spotlight on blood clots.  A downloadable PDF is available on NBCA’s website.

According to NBCA President, Randy Fenninger, “At-A-Glance: Blood Clots provides information about blood clots using terminology that is targeted to consumers, both patients and the general public.  It includes information about risk factors for blood clots in veins (deep vein thrombosis that can lead to pulmonary embolism), blood thinners, FAQs, questions to ask your doctor and a glossary of terms.”

This is the first in a series of At-A-Glance topics that will be issued by NBCA.  The next At-A-Glance will focus on factor V Leiden, scheduled for a November release.  Additional topics scheduled for late 2012 / early 2013 include separate At-A-Glance on different thrombophilias, including:  protein s deficiency, protein c deficiency and antithrombin deficiency.

At-A-Glance: Blood Clots was developed by NBCA’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Board (Jack Ansell, Ken Bauer); NBCA’s staff and consultants (Mary Ellen McCann, Alan Brownstein, Lisa Fullam), and health literacy content and design consultants (Amy Stone and Cara Bufanio).
