The National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA) is proud to welcome Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola, FL as the newest NBCA-designated Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Center of Excellence. This recognition reflects the hospital’s strong commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of blood clots.
VTE, which includes deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), remains a leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Each year, up to 900,000 people are affected, and as many as 100,000 lives are lost. Despite these statistics, VTE is often underdiagnosed and undertreated. That’s why NBCA is working to elevate institutions that prioritize evidence-based, multidisciplinary approaches to care.
Ascension Sacred Heart is the second institution to receive this designation since the program launched in 2024. It joins Corewell Health Grand Rapids — Butterworth Hospital, and more are in the pipeline.
“This designation is a reflection and celebration of the PE and DVT treatment techniques we’ve utilized for the past decade,” said Dr. Rohit Amin, Interventional Cardiologist at Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola. “This is a proud moment for our team, hospital, and community as we share this incredible milestone.”
By becoming a VTE Center of Excellence, Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola joins a growing national network of institutions that are leading the way in advancing best practices, improving patient safety, and increasing awareness of blood clot risks and treatment options.
“NBCA VTE Centers of Excellence are helping to transform how we approach blood clot care in this country,” said Erin VanDyke, PA-C, Vice President of the NBCA COE Program. “Ascension Sacred Heart’s dedication to comprehensive, patient-focused care makes them an exemplary partner, and we are honored to recognize their leadership with this designation.”
