spyropolousThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Blood Disorders (DBD), held a webinar on Thursday, March 3, 2016, entitled Assessing the Risk for Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) in Hospitalized Medical Patients. The guest speaker was Alex C. Spyropoulos, MD, Professor of Medicine, Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine.

In the archived webinar video below, Dr. Spyropoulos discusses recent advances in both the use of clinical VTE risk assessment models and potential VTE biomarkers to identify patients at higher risk for VTE and to improve prevention of VTE among hospitalized patients. He also discusses potential future utility of these strategies to identify particularly high-risk patients who would benefit from long-term thromboprophylaxis to prevent VTE.

The National Blood Clot Alliance (NBCA) hosted this webinar as part of its collaborative agreement with CDC.
