My journey with blood clots has profoundly shaped my understanding of both physical and spiritual wellness, becoming the cornerstone of my life.
The first episode occurred in 2011 when I was three months pregnant with my fifth child. I had been experiencing persistent pain in my left leg, I was dismissed each time I went to the ER.
It wasn’t until I fell face-first one morning due to my completely numb leg that a caring physician assistant finally listened to me. He ran the necessary tests and discovered I had three blood clots in my left leg.
His words still resonate with me, as he warned me that had I delayed seeking help, I might not have been alive in a few weeks.
This traumatic experience awakened me to the fragility of life and the importance of paying attention to one’s body, setting me on a path to prioritize my physical and spiritual health like never before.
Fast forward to February 2022, and I faced another wake-up call. While out making deliveries for my business, I felt an unusual pain in my chest that echoed the lessons I’d learned years prior. Instead of ignoring it, I listened to my body and went to the ER, where I learned I had clots in both lungs.
The doctors could never provide a definitive cause for my conditions, but each experience reinforced my commitment to wellness. Since then, I have been on daily blood thinners and even underwent the procedure of placing a stent in my inguinal vein to restore healthy blood flow.
Through these challenges, I have maintained an active lifestyle and have become passionate about encouraging others to listen to their bodies. I have learned that our physical health is deeply intertwined with our spiritual well-being, and I strive to be a champion for others, sharing the vital importance of awareness, advocacy, and self-care.
