I started experiencing pain in my left calf and by morning the next day, I was in excruciating pain. I called my doctor’s office and they asked me to come in as soon as possible.
After the D-dimer bloodwork results showed I likely had a clot, I received a Doppler scan that revealed the DVT. I was prescribed the blood thinner rivaroxaban for the following months.
Then I received another Doppler scan six months following my diagnosis that showed the clot was gone. I also received further testing for clotting factors that yielded negative results. The cause of my blood clot was never determined.
I have learned so much about blood clots that I never knew before my diagnosis. The NBCA patient resources have been very helpful along with the Facebook support group.
My advice to others is to please listen to your body. If you feel something isn’t right, get checked out.
