On Sept. 19, 2020, 32-year-old Leschel Brooks of B $On Sept. 19, 2020, 32-year-old Leschel Brooks of Brooklyn, NY died of a pulmonary embolism following an ankle fracture. Leschel’s death set her mother, Arshell Brooks-Harris, on a path of advocacy that led her to the National Blood Clot Alliance. Now, as Secretary of NBCA’s Board of Directors, Arshell is a fierce advocate for blood clot prevention and awareness. To bring more attention to blood clots, Arshell and family hosted the fourth annual blood clot awareness event in Leschel’s memory on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn.
